Our Story

About What We Do & How We Serve You

From our humble beginnings on St. Claude Ave. in New Orleans to our expansive campus on Severn Ave. in Metairie, Louisiana, our mission has been and always will be to educate and produce a quality workforce. Our success is deeply rooted in the finest training programs in the world. We are a successful and growing organization representing over 2100 members. Our members and their families enjoy company-paid benefits administered by Local 60 such as pension, health and welfare, 401k, and a vacation fund. Local 60 is more committed than ever in promoting legislation and supporting our local political leaders to improve the quality of life for all working families and for workers’ rights. For over 100 years, Local 60 has been committed to our members and community and will be there for our future generations.

The journeymen and apprentices of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union 60 were instrumental in installing the plumbing and air-conditioning systems in some of the largest commercial and industrial projects in the Greater New Orleans area. Newer projects such as the Harrah’s Casino and the Lowes Hotel to the granddaddy of them all the Superdome, home of the World Champion New Orleans Saints! We are constantly supplying quality craftsmen for jobs at ongoing industrial projects at the Valero Refinery, Murphy Refinery, Folgers Coffee Plant, and many more industrial plants from the mouth of the Mississippi River to the River Parishes. Local 60 is dedicated to provide for employment, the best trained, experienced and drug-free journeymen and apprentices available anywhere.

Why Join?

Union membership will guarantee that you will have the greatest opportunity to become the finest craftsman available anywhere in the country. All the while, you will have health care benefits for you and your family along with a defined benefit pension plan and a defined contribution plan to ensure you a comfortable retirement.

As pipe trades craftsmen, we perform on a wide range of different projects, from large commercial projects including hospitals, schools, and hotels to large industrial projects such as nuclear power plants, conventional power plants, oil refineries, chemical plants, and product manufacturing facilities. We also construct and maintain industrial refrigeration and climate control systems.

Benefits

By becoming a member, you will have choices to pursue many opportunities in the pipe trade profession. This trade involves more than simply installing pipe and valves. As a skilled craftsman, you will be expected to interpret blueprints and flow charts, measure and cut piping to exact dimensions and install a piping system that includes valves, pumps, and possibly backflow prevention devices. The joining of these systems may be by welding, brazing or soldering no matter our members are qualified and certified to these processes. If you possess these skills already or what to learn these skills in our state-of-the-art training facility, Local 60 is the place for you.
